Customer Rating: Summary: An Excellent Guidebook Comment: If you considering going to Budapest, definitely GO.
It's an amazing place, so many sights and sounds to experience and enjoy. If you have a sense of adventure and love exploration, definitely purchase a copy of this Guide by Duncan Smith who will help guide you through this amazing place. Buy it before you go, lose yourself within its covers and have the most incredible time there. You will not regret it.
Enjoy, Ashley

Customer Rating: Summary: Now then Comment: I have to say this book is a good read, however you can't take it with you as your ONLY guide book. My husband and I went last weekend to Budapest (fantastic place by the way!) with another couple and took this book with us. The other couple had two other guide books which had all the usual info in, such as useful phrases, places to eat, bars and MOST of the places that were in this book. Had we not had their books too with their detailed maps and bars etc I doubt we would've had such a good time and found the places so easily - I was however able to offer the history part. I realise you need to find your own bars and restaurants, but it was nice to be given options near to our hotel etc which you just don't get with this book - maybe that's the point of it, I don't know. Although this book gives you lots of history and is indeed a good read, don't take it as you're only guide. It is very well written and interesting though.
Customer Rating: Summary: Budapest off the beaten track Comment: Getting off-the-beaten track in a major capital city can be a difficult thing, but Duncan Smith's "Only in Budapest" helped me to do exactly that. A sequel to his equally fascinating "Only in Vienna", which I also enjoyed reading, I would heartily recommend this new guide to independent and adventurous travellers wishing to really explore the Hungarian capital. The book focusses on the city's less well-known locations, for example Turkish tombs, hidden caves, secret courtyards, unusual museums, and forgotten cemeteries. And it's extremely well illustrated too, with good colour photographs. I recommend "Only in Budapest", not only as a practical guide but also as an interesting book to read at home.
Customer Rating: Summary: A Treasure Comment: This book is a real treasure. Well-written and nicely presented, it's a lovely guide for travellers who are looking to see more than just the obvious tourist sights. Budapest is a beautiful and fascinating city, and well worth exploring properly.
I lived there for 8 years and know the place very well, but even I discovered some new things in this book. Friends who go on holiday to Hungary are always asking for advice on what to do and where to go, so in future I shall just recommend this book and let them get on with it!
Customer Rating: Summary: Fantastic! Comment: Although there are a lot of travel guides about Budapest this is the one I particularly like. It's not only a guide to all the usual places but also to all the hidden treasures of Budapest and how to get to these places plus there are colour photos on every page!
The sights are divided into the Buda, Óbuda and Pest districts, and other places of interest near by are also mentioned to save time and effort.
The other fantastic thing about this book is that it has the history of the buildings and places mentioned as well that of the country. I went to Budapest in July for week, now it's December and I still flick through the book because it's a great read.
I recommend it to anyone going to Budapest for the first time or indeed revisiting it.
