Customer Rating: Summary: An excellent and unique story of the Hungarian Uprising Comment: As an eyewitness and participant in the 1956 Hungarian Uprising, I found Bob Dent's book accurate, interesting and extremely well researched. It is a pity that Amazon does not offer the book in the USA and it needs to be shipped from the UK or from Hungary.
The chronology of the events in Budapest is very complex as many uncoordinated but relevant activities were going on simultaneously in various parts of Pest and Buda. Based on personal experience, no eyewitness or participant can provide an accurate account of all the events. The eyewitness reports are like the seven blind men describing the elephant in that old story. - Bob Dent turned the story on its head and organized and described the events for each of the important sites. This way, participants at specific sites can verify his account and visitors can explore the physical sites using Dent's book as a tourguide. The places where I was personally present, at Bem's statue, the Radio Station and at various places associated with the Technical University are to the best of my memory correct and detailed.
Dent's book also provides numerous personal accounts which make this book lively and entertaining. Congratulations on a superb work of historical reportage!
